V-103/WAOK's For Sisters Only

This past Saturday, I attended V-103/WAOK's annual event, For Sisters Only. For those of you who are not familiar with the event, it's held at the Georgia World Congress Center and it's a great opportunity for companies to reach out to potential clients. Thousands of women and MEN come out to the event to check out the vendors and of course the hot music acts. This year, the line-up was quite impressive.... everyone from Ashanti to Ludacris, T.I. and EVEN a debuting Terrance Howard performed for a screaming audience! I caught a few of the acts on camera so check them out if you weren't there. All of the acts did a great job- just about the entire audience knew all of Ashanti's songs. Gorilla Zoe got up close and personal with the crowd. Ludacris had the crowd chanting,"Yes we can!", it was great!!! I think the biggest surprise was when Monica hit the stage and performed "Still Standing". I love that song, it's soo powerful and emotional.
The music acts weren't the only thing poppin' off! A couple of the cast members of Tyler Perry's hit TV show, House of Payne, made appearances. My daughter and I had the pleasure of meeting "Doc" who plays the funny Malik. I was a bit embarrassed, because when I saw him, it was as though I had seen him before, BUT I just couldn't put my finger on it! Has that ever happened to you? So silly me said, "Aren't you on one of those Disney shows?" My daughter corrected me and said, "No, mommy, House of Payne". So that was my "blond" moment for the day! LOL. Nonetheless, the young actor has got some great things going for him, a possible collabo with Disney in the future.. in the meantime he's teamed up with the fabulous program, It's Cool To Be Smart". So make certain that you guys keep your eyes on this actor who's set to rise to the top!
Speaking of actors, a couple of the kids from College Hill were also at For Sisters Only. Personally, I never watched the show, BUT I have interviewed Dorion before and I was strolling around with his publicist, Tahira, when we bumped into him and one of his co-stars, Shavon. I must say, they had alot of fans that were constantly stopping them. We decided to check out the AMBI booth area (which I might add, they had a really nice set up.) They were so nice to provide both Shavon and Dorion with some AMBI products. (I got some samples, which I have been using since Sunday and it actually works!)
I had a great time, my daughter wanted to go back on Sunday, but I was TIRED! I think the V-103/WAOK staff did a great job as usual pulling this event together. For any companies out there... you should definitely put this on your list of things to do next year. I will say though.. in order for you to be successful at this event, you MUST have a great presentation and offer something to all the thousands of people that come through!!! Check out my videos, check out the pics!! And see you next time!!

Young Jeezy back at it!

Young Jeezy is Puttin' On for his city without a doubt. Jeezy performed at the Tabernacle September 3rd and the show was insane! He had a live band, tons of energy and a huge collection of songs to perform. The performance was scheduled at 8pm.. HA HA.. 9pm came and went.... 9pm came and went. But time wasn't lost it was a mini-reunion for me, I saw people I hadn't seen in a while, including my roommate from college!! Once the show started the crowd forgot about the two hour wait for the man of the hour. He cranked out hit after hit with the audience rapping along. Of course the Tabernacle doesn't have ample seating so I had to stand the entire time, BUT that was ok because I was in wonderful
company:-)
The show lasted a little more than an hour ( he still had to get to the Velvet Room- which I heard was packed!). In that hour Jeezy had soo many songs that he had to perform abbreviated versions. He also shouted out free Slick Pulla.. I didn't know he was locked up. Geez.
Check out some of his performance in the video!

GORILLA ZOE

During the Labor Day weekend I was able to head out of town with the infamous, Block Ent. crew. It was quite an adventure I must say. Those guys really know how to hit the streets in terms of promotion! It seems that in every city we went to, EVERYONE had love for Gorilla Zoe. If you ever get the opportunity to talk with the "legend in the making" you will see why he has die hard fans. The guy is hilarious, and is always pleasant. Enough of the emotional stuff, let's talk music. Zoe has a nice selection of songs of which his fans seem to know all the words to. I'm talking about songs that didn't get much airplay, like Bite Down, or Juice Box. Of course the favorites are Hood Figga and his latest, Lost feat. Lil Wayne. Lost is such a relevant song to todays times since we are apparently in a recession. Who hasn't had that feeling of being Lost. Zoe recently put out a mixtape that has such an immaculate collection of songs that will definitely tie fans over until his album, Don't Feed The Animals, drops in early '09. Check out some of the how footage I captured!!

Eric Benet

A few weeks back, I was in the presence of R&B crooner, Eric Benet. To be honest with you, I have never been an Eric Benet fan, never bought an album and never thought twice about his songs. HOWEVER, I do plan to buy his forthcoming cd, Love and Life, which will be available September 9th. So why this album? From the 4 songs I heard I already know this album is positioned to top the R&B charts. His first single, "The Only One" is hot, it takes you back to when R&B was really R&B.. no some r&b mixed with rap or someone using an autotune to synthesize their voice. This is Eric's 4th album and this go around the label gave him complete control! Sound farfetched for a major label to do?? Well this album shows what happens when you give the artist complete control! Now Eric's 2nd single, "The Hunger", was a sexually charged song.. but hey... it is coming from Mr. Benet! One of the favorites (it received the loudest applause) was a song titled, "Chocolate Legs". The song has a catchy hook, wrap your chocolate legs around me. The song is great and is destined to be a hit! Too bad my leg are more like peanut buttery... but I guess wrap your peanut butter legs around me doesn't sound quite as catchy... LOL! I had posted this on my sister site, urbanrunwaytv.com a couple weeks ago.. but recently some video surfaced on youtube featuring Eric and his daughter. I just thought it was super cute for them to "perform" together. Check it out for yourself!
That's it for now!

Janelle Monae

You know, sometimes I just get sick and tired of listening to the same ole music.. Well at least what some of these artists today call music.. I often find myself switching radio stations especially when ANY solja boy song comes on, that is not music for me... My 8-year old on the hand loves it. I suppose my tastes are little more mature... Don't get me wrong, I like to get silly too but sometimes... I just need some quality music.. A couple days ago, one of my favorite female singers. Janelle Monae had a listening session at the WEA offices here in Atlanta. I have known this extraordinary young lady for quite some time.. I actually did one of her first interviews here in Atlanta way back when! Even in that first interview I knew this wasn't some R&B chick. Her voice is soo breathtaking.. If any of you guys out there are into musicals, Janelle has the voice for Broadway. But it doesn't stop there... I remember watching Janelle perform to "Lettin' Go" for the first time.. she was everywhere!! BUT she had soo much energy! I loved it! It's soo easy to love her musical gift.. To here her music is one thing, but to see her perform! Whew! Absolutely amazing! I wish more artists were like her, BUT I am glad she is herself, because they may try to imitate but they will never duplicate her. Her album, Metropolis, is finally being released on a nationwide level. It came out Tuesday, August 12th. The price is pretty low so you definitely want to buy a few so you can give them to your friends! The songs will allow you to go on a journey... it will make you think... it will make you want to hear more (this is a relatively short cd.... think of it as an introduction to Janelle Monae). If you ever get the chance to see her perform live.
